La trama:
Xander e Bennett sono amici d'infanzia e insieme hanno condiviso moltissime cose, nonostante la differente classe sociale di appartenenza; Xander è infatti il figlio del guardiano della villa dei Crawford, mentre Bennett è l'unico erede di questa potente famiglia. Nonostante ciò i due crescono insieme, grazie al padre di Xander che si occupa amorevolmente di entrambi.

Ad un tratto però, qualcosa cambia e Bennett volta le spalle a Xander proprio nel momento in cui il ragazzo ha più bisogno di lui e i due si separano definitivamente.
La storia inizia quindici anni dopo questi fatti con Xander che ormai si è rifatto una vita lavorando in Colorado come guida escursionistica, anche se si sente ancora molto ferito e tradito dal voltafaccia del vecchio amico.
Quindi immaginatevi la sua faccia quando scopre che deve fare da guida per una settimana proprio a Bennett e al suo gruppo di ragazzi.
Bennett gestisce la fondazione benefica di famiglia e ha organizzato questa escurione all'aria aperta proprio per far divertire questi ragazzi poco fortunati; anche per lui ritrovare Xander è un colpo al cuore perchè a distanza di anni non riesce a perdonarsi di avergli voltato le spalle.
All'inizio ho fatto fatica a capire Bennett perchè provavo e facevo mio il dolore di Xander, ma poi questo ragazzo milionario si rivela per quello che è: un uomo schiacciato dalle pretese della sua famiglia che non lo lascia essere quello che è. Bennett vorrebbe dedicarsi solo alla fondazione e aiutare le persone, i ragazzi bisognosi, ma suo padre pretende che invece si occupi dell'impero economico di famiglia. Bennett dovrà imparare ad alzare la testa e lottare per quello che vuole davvero...
Riusciranno i due a chiarirsi e perdonarsi? il percorso che fanno entrambi non è facile e si snoda tra passato a presente, pieno di ricordi e momenti intrisi di tristezza, perchè questi due ragazzi hanno perso anni preziosi per colpa di odio e incomprensioni e ora devono scendere a compromessi e mettersi alle spalle il passato.
"You need to pick me, Xander." He said, raising his voice so I could hear him over the rain. It was coming down in sheets.....

Sullo sfondo della storia di Xander e Bennett, abbiamo il meraviglioso contesto delle escursioni in Colorado e le vite dei vari ragazzi della fondazioni di Bennett che lui ama e protegge come un leone; in particolare Lucky, un ragazzo di sedici anni dolcissimo che aiuterà Xander a capire e ragionare sul suo passato.
"Well, how do you decide what kind of things are unforgivable? If, like, you like someone and want to be with them, but you can't forget the things they've said that hurt you?"
Altro personaggio che ho amato fin dalla prima riga è Aiden, il miglior amico di Bennett, nonchè suo ex, che non perde tempo a stuzzicare Xander per farlo ingelosire; ma al di là di questo mi è piaciuto il suo rapporto con Bennett, come gli sta vicino e conosce tutto il dolore che il ragazzo ha passato dopo aver detto addio a Xander. Non vedo l'ora di leggere il suo libro ^_^
Ormai per me Sloane Kennedy è una garanzia, sto amando ogni libro che scrive, e questo scritto in coppia con Lucy Lennox si conferma ancora una volta vincente. Insieme scrivono benissimo, riescono a fondersi e creare dei personaggi unici e particolari...e le scene di sesso sono WOW! ^_^
Non avevo mai letto nulla di Lucy Lennox ma rimedierò presto ^_^
